What We Believe:

  • We believe the Holy Bible to be the word of God, and our mission is to help the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
  • We are a diverse community holding many opinions, but we are committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ. We may not always agree, but we strive to love one another and to join together in God’s mission in the world.
  • We believe in God’s saving actions in Jesus Christ, as summarized in the ancient Apostle’s Creed, which we often affirm in our worship:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

  • We believe that even as God has so loved us, we respond by loving God and loving one another. As Jesus said,
“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:37–40, NRSV)

  • We believe God loves all people, without exception.
  • We believe in living according to the example of Christ, as Christ’s representatives in the world.
  • We believe true faith is acted out.
  • We are a “WORSHIP + 3” congregation where we encourage and expect every member to participate in worship and in addition
to be involved in one study/small group experience (to nurture their spiritual life)
to be involved in one mission or social concern ministry (to nurture others)
to financially support the work of HUMC in ministry and mission
